About Picket Thill Field Notes

Picket Thill Field Notes covers one subject thoroughly: the working knowledge an angler or hunter needs between the driveway and the release.

Picket Thill Field Notes is an independent journal, written in English for anglers and hunters in the United States, devoted to one subject: the working knowledge between the driveway and the release. We cover the basics that decide a drift, the season frameworks that decide a fall, the license systems that fund it all, gear checklists that survive parking lots, the craft of reading moving and still water, and the release and access habits that keep all of it alive for the next season.

How the journal works

Every page stays at the level a careful reader can verify: seasons framed as typical windows rather than promises, prices banded rather than quoted, temperatures and conditions given as working ranges. We name no secret waters and we sell none, because a named ditch is a dying ditch. We do not sell guide trips, we quote no packages, and no page on this site takes a booking; the journal exists to prepare the reader for whatever water they already have in mind. Where the practice of the sport has hard edges, wading force, warm water stress, deep hooked fish, we state the rule and the reason together. The editorial policy states these rules in full, and the hunting season calendar guide shows the method applied to the busiest page on the site.

What we are not

We are not a guide service, an outfitter or a booking agent, whatever the domain in the address bar remembers; this is a reading desk, not a reservation desk. We accept no payment for placement inside the guides, and any clearly labelled support would live under the rules on the sponsored content page. Every article is written and signed by the desk, which makes this page the author page of the journal. To reach us, write through the contact page.
